Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) has inked a pact with a brick-and-mortar casino operator in Ontario, Canada.
This agreement will enable GiG to roll out its online platform, sports wagering, and OMNI solutions in the province. GiG has previously assisted two other operators in launching in Ontario, including Kings Media Ltd.
The deal is projected to take effect in the initial six months of 2023.
Ben Clemes, Head of North America for GiG, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating that the land-based operator’s long-standing presence in Ontario will permit GiG to display its OMNI solution and comprehensive product inventory.
GiG secured a permit to operate in Ontario in July. However, a legal dispute from the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake concerning online gaming in Canada could potentially influence the trajectory of online gambling in the province.
The Ontario High Court has initiated a legal challenge against Ontario’s online gambling regulations and the provincial government, claiming that the rules governing gambling are against the constitution.
Commercial wagering and gaming in Canada are only permitted if they are “operated and overseen” by provincial authorities. While most provinces providing online gambling operate government-controlled monopolies, Ontario introduced a licensing system this year with over 30 authorized operators to date.
Although there is no explicit definition of “operated and overseen,” the Kahnawake Mohawk Council contends that the province does not actually run or manage online gambling.
