The fate of California’s sports wagering proposal remains unclear, with a review of the issue being delayed until June 23rd.

California residents will need to wait a bit longer for updates on the state’s sports betting legalization. The recent review of SCA 6 has been moved to June 23rd.

SCA 6, put forward by Bill Dodd, lays out a strategy that would permit a statewide ballot on sports wagering. The strategy necessitates a two-thirds majority vote from the electorate to be enacted.

The proposal was endorsed by the California Senate Governmental Organization Committee on June 3rd, but was put on the California Assembly’s hold file on June 9th because its financial impact surpasses $50,000.

Proposals placed on the hold file are subject to a review by the Appropriations Committee after the state budget is released. During this review, the Appropriations Committee will choose proposals to be removed from the file and proceed, while the rest will be dismissed. This review and the vote on each proposal are not open to the public.
