The gaming corporation Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) is expanding its reach into the New Hampshire market with the purchase of Chasers Poker Room. Although Chasers has provided poker and other table games since 2017, CDI’s primary interest lies in the potential to bring historical horse racing (HHR) to the state. New Hampshire gave the go-ahead for HHR for current charitable gaming providers in 2021, and Chasers, situated a mere 30 minutes from Boston, will serve as CDI’s northeast center for this captivating type of gaming. CDI intends to construct a more spacious venue in Salem to house the HHR terminals. CEO Bill Carstanjen views this as a golden chance to capitalize on CDI’s proficiency in HHR within the growing New England market. The agreement still awaits approval from the New Hampshire Lottery Commission, but should everything proceed without a hitch, anticipate further announcements regarding CDI’s vision for a cutting-edge gaming establishment in Salem in the near future.
The Granite State could be welcoming the thrill of equestrian competition! Churchill Downs Inc., renowned for hosting the Kentucky Derby, already manages operations in Kentucky, Virginia (following an acquisition of Peninsula Pacific Entertainment), and will soon expand into Louisiana (upon completion of the HRM expansion). Should this proposal gain approval, a portion of the proceeds generated from charitable gaming in New Hampshire would be allocated to authorized non-profit organizations, as mandated by state regulations.
