The Australian Media and Communications Authority (ACMA) recently took action against four illicit overseas wagering platforms, requesting that Australian internet service providers restrict access to them.

These sites, identified as Bao Bo Entertainment City, Slot Machine Paradise, Happy Slots, and Australia Wins Entertainment City, were the focus of multiple complaints received by the ACMA. Their inquiries determined that these platforms were functioning in breach of the Interactive Gambling Act of 2001.

This move is part of a broader initiative that commenced in November 2019, and since then, the ACMA has effectively blocked a total of 263 unlawful gambling websites. Moreover, since stricter regulations targeting illegal offshore wagering were enacted in 2017, over 130 of these dubious enterprises have stopped targeting Australian customers entirely.

Restricting websites is just one instrument in the collection of enforcement actions accessible to Australian regulators. The ACMA stresses that this action serves as a valuable chance to enhance public understanding about the risks of illicit gambling activities. One of the steps taken is presenting cautionary notices to users who try to reach these sites.
